Everyone has a playbook and strong opinions about what plays will work. Defensive schemes take a game or two to settle into. The first-week energy is high and a little chaotic.

Defensive technique sharpens. Players practice getting in front of the ball carrier instead of just chasing from behind. A few well-timed flag pulls will draw big reactions from the sideline.

Quarterback accuracy picks up noticeably. Passes are landing closer to where the receiver is running, and a few kids are starting to track throws over their shoulder.

Defense starts to cover zones instead of all five players chasing the same ball. This is when interceptions start showing up and defenses look more organized.
